True Poker Charity Launches
MLP's relationship with the estate of Stu Ungar grew deeper in
late 2005 when MLP was hired to provide management services to
a newly created non-profit, The Stu Ungar Foundation, the first
charity to be established in the name of a poker player.
The mission of The Stu Ungar Foundation is to deliver ongoing
awareness of the problems associated with addictive behavior including
gambling, drugs, and suicide, and to supply much needed funds to
qualified and recognized organizations that provide treatment.
Long term, the Foundation plans on opening a treatment namesake
facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Once again, MLP will be working closely with Madeline and Stefanie
Ungar, the widow and daughter of Stu Ungar, and Co-Founders of
the charity. MLP will be primarily focused on fundraising activities
including soliciting potential sponsors and underwriters.
To help maximize the Foundation's overall fundraising potential,
MLP has retained Joe Lake, the recently retired co-founder of the
Children's Miracle Network and now the most sought after non-profit
consultant in the U.S. Mr. Lake's contacts in Hollywood,
politics and corporate America are extensive, and will be utilized
to the fullest as the Foundation begins seeking funding in 2006.
One key fundraising activity MLP plans to bring to the Foundation
is a series of charity poker tournaments hosted at major poker
circuit events. Thus far, there has been a very positive response
from the world of professional poker and celebrity poker players
that intend to participate in the events. More details to come
on this website as they unfold.
MLP Partners With A Poker Legend
MLP
has been hired by Stu Ungar, Inc., to act as the company's exclusive
licensing agent. In this role, MLP will responsible for bringing
licensing opportunities to the company and otherwise aid in capitalizing
on the success of the book, "One
of a Kind: The Rise and Fall of Stuey "The Kid" Ungar." This is
the first, accurate telling of Stu's life story, and it's much
more than a book about poker. It reads like a Shakespearian tradegy
with a plot ideally suited for the big screen.
To date, MLP has been working in conjunction with a potential
licensee that distributes merchandise into casino gift shops and
other boutiques. Keep an eye out for the Ungar brand in major retail
outlets everywhere in the coming 12-18 months.
Stu Ungar, Inc. is owned by Madeline and Stefanie Ungar, the widow
and daughter of poker legend Stu Ungar, arguably the best poker
player of all time. Stu's untimely death in 1998 was less than
a year after winning his third WSOP Main Event, a feat still unmatched
to this day.
